OUR STORY
Breaking New Ground in Agricultural Science
Western Crop Innovations (WCI) is at the forefront of agricultural development, emerging from the legacy of the Field Crop Development Centre (FCDC), the last three years of which operated under Olds College. Newly incorporated under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act and backed by a partnership with Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation, WCI aims to be a pillar of progress in the agricultural sector. As we transition from our roots at FCDC, we continue to advance a tradition of groundbreaking research and a deep commitment to the agricultural community.
Why We Evolved
The transition to WCI is a key milestone for us. It opens new possibilities to increase our influence and improve how we operate, ensuring our innovative breeding techniques and developments in crop science reach a broader audience. The move also strengthens our ability to secure essential financial support and build closer relationships with our partners across the industry.
Moving Forward
WCI is dedicated to driving real change in agriculture. With the same bold thinking and purpose-driven approach that defined our time at Olds College, our focus remains on increasing yield, improving disease resistance, and ensuring superior end-use quality of crops. Through this transition, our commitment to the industry is stronger than ever; we’ll continue to be a leading interdisciplinary research team and recognized internationally for our contributions to crop innovation.
Looking to the Future
Agriculture is not only about yield but also about sustainability and resilience. Our aim is to equip farmers with the tools they need to adapt to and overcome modern agricultural challenges. By fostering long-term partnerships and leveraging the power of public-private cooperation, we’re setting new standards for what it means to be at the cutting edge of the agricultural sciences.
